Fresh off a victory at the Oi HD Sao Paulo Open in Brazil, Miguel Pupo (BRA) snuck some time in at home before heading to Hawaii. Davey Cathels (AUS) launched himself into the qualification conversation with a second-place finish at the QS 10,000 in Sao Paulo. At No. 8 he's got a little distance between himself and the cutoff, but with as many as 17 surfers clamoring to break in, he will need to continue his momentum at Haleiwa. -- @daveycathels: our kidding!
