World Title Watch: Races Head to Hawaii

With the conclusion of the European leg of the Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour, the crowning of the men's and women's 2015 World Champions will once again be determined in Hawaii, the birthplace of surfing. Heading into the last elite events of the season, the men's Billabong Pipe Masters and the women's Target Maui Pro, a number of top surfers have emerged as contenders.

The world's best surfers return to Hawaii's North Shore for the 2015 Billabong Pipe Masters, the final event of the season.

The top surfers with a shot at the Title on the Men's CT are Jeep Rankings leader Mick Fanning (AUS), (newly ranked) World No. 2 Filipe Toledo (BRA), World No. 3 Adriano de Souza (BRA), and No. 4, reigning World Champion Gabriel Medina (BRA). And though Julian Wilson (AUS) and Owen Wright (AUS) were eliminated in Round 2 of the Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal, either could legitimately take it all in Hawaii.

Toledo Soars into World No. 2

With his third win of the season at the Moche Rip Curl Pro Portugal, Toledo will head into the Billabong Pipe Masters as No. 2 in the world.

Men's World Title Scenarios Ahead of the Billabong Pipe Masters:

If Mick Fanning finishes 25th/13th at Pipe

• Owen Wright & Julian Wilson will need a 1st
  
• Gabriel Medina will need a 3rd or better
  
• Adriano de Souza will need a 9th or better
  
• Filipe Toledo will need a 13th or better to clinch the World Title

If Mick Fanning finishes 9th

• Gabriel Medina will need a 1st
  
• Adriano de Souza will need a 5th
  
• Filipe Toledo will need a 9th
  

If Mick Fanning finishes 5th

• Gabriel Medina will need a 1st
  
• Adriano de Souza will need a 3rd
  
• Filipe Toledo will need a 5th
  

If Mick Fanning finishes 3rd

• Adriano will need a 2nd

Medina Keeps Title Hopes Alive

Gabriel Medina pulled off a miracle to keep his Title chances alive with a huge air for heat win in Round 3 of the Moche Rip Curl Pro, before exiting in the Quarterfinals.

The women's CT saw a switch-up between World No. 1 and No. 2 mid-contest at the Roxy Pro France, when Courtney Conlogue (USA) was eliminated in Round 4. Carissa Moore (HAW), who made it to the Semis, moved back into the No. 1 spot, with Conlogue now at No. 2.

Carissa Moore's fire at the Roxy Pro France saw her take back the yellow jersey sending the women's Title Race to Maui.

Women's World Title Scenarios Ahead of the Target Maui Pro:

If Moore gets 13th or 9th in Maui, Conlogue needs to place 3rd (Semifinal finish).
If Moore finishes in 5th in Maui, then Conlogue must win the event. If Conlogue finishes runner-up instead, it would be a tie and a surf-off.
If Moore finishes third in Maui (Semifinals), then Conlogue needs to win the event.
If Moore finishes runner-up in Maui, she will win the World Title.

Conlogue's Hawaiian Perfection

Courtney Conlogue lost the yellow jersey, but if she brings the type of performance that earned her a 10 at last year's Target Maui Pro, she could prove to be the spoiler of Moore's third Title hopes.
