During a storm delayed afternoon at Newcastle's Surfest, 5-time ASP Women's world champion and the number seed in the Hunter Ports Women's Classic, Stephanie Gilmore finally made her opening round appearance and her performance rewarded a group of fans who endured the weather to see her surf.Gilmore opened with an excellent 8.5 ride, backed that wave up shortly after with a strong 7.83 to comprehensively take the heat on a two-wave tally of 16.33 over Demi Boelsterli in second place on 11.10 in Heat 4 RD 3
