CÔTE SAUVAGE, Royan - France (Monday, July 1, 2013) – The ASP 1-Star Men's and Women's Soöruz Pro Junior Royan Atlantique starts this Thursday, July 4 on the untouched Côte Sauvage just North of Royan. The best surfers under 20 years of age from the Old Continent are heading towards the beautiful beachbreaks of Royan for a second edition that eyes a very promising forecast of sun and waves.
"Looks like we're in for a treat," confirms Isabelle Peyvel, organizer of the event. "The forecast shows summer temperatures and weather for the whole waiting period and a little swell everyday between 2 and 4 Ft so we should have very nice conditions for the Juniors."
Surfers have entered the event online for weeks now and with an almost definite list of participants, most of the very best surfers that Europe has to offer will gather in Royan to launch their assault towards a 2013 ASP European Junior Title. Last year's men's event winner Ramzi Boukhiam (MAR) 19, built momentum from his win in Charentes and went on to claim his maiden European Junior Title later in the season. In the women's it was South-Africa's sensation Bianca Buitendag (ZAF) 19, that claimed the crown in Royan, only to dominate all events she entered on her way to qualify for the Elite ASP Top17.
Both defending champions are now committed to surfing the International tours and will not be returning to Royan this summer, letting the door wide open for any young talents to rise up and claim top honors at the Soöruz Pro Junior Royan Atlantique.
"The Soöruz Pro Junior Royan Atlantique is shaping up to be a great event with over 100 surfers in competition during the four day event," stated Rob Gunning, ASP Europe's tour manager. "Forecast looks like we are going to have small but consistant conditions for the best under-20's of Europe to show their talents".
Organizers have called for a 9am check-in on Thursday morning for all surfers to attend, which will decide of the day's schedule. Competition is expected to start on the first day of the waiting period and will be broadcasted LIVE via the event's website.
The Soöruz Pro Junior Royan Atlantique is made possible with the support of the following event partners: Soöruz, Agglomération Royan Atlantique, Conseil Régional de Poitou-Charentes, l'Office National des Fôrets, Pitel, Station Nautique Royan Atlantique, Virgin Radio, MAAF, and Fédération Française de Surf amongst others.
