CÔTE SAUVAGE, Royan – France (Wednesday, May 22, 2013) - We are pleased to confirm today our very first event of the 2013 season in Royan early July ! The ASP 1-Star Men and Women's Soöruz Royan Atlantique Pro Junior returns to the beautiful coastline of the Côte Sauvage after a successful first edition last year and will launch our European season from July 4-7, 2013 !
"The Sooruz Royan Atlantique Pro Junior will be the starting point for both our men's and women's pro junior series for 2013," confirmed Rob Gunning, ASP Europe's tour manager. "Everyone is excited about getting this year's junior tour underway and this event with its quality beach breaks on the 'Cote Sauvage' of Royan will be the perfect show case for Europe's finest under-20 surfers both male and female."
Despite the difficult economical situation our whole industry is battling at the moment, organizers have fought to defend their event and are happy to once again count on the support of the local area as well as surfing brand's Soöruz to keep Royan on the schedule.
"The Surf Club Royan Atlantique, lead by Isabelle Peyvel, have done a great job in getting the event back on the schedule for this season and ASP Europe is grateful for the hard work and support shown to our junior surfers put in by both the club and the event sponsors."
Last year's tough conditions saw Ramzi Boukhiam (MAR) 19, dominate a hungry field of European competitors to win the event, on his way to clinching a maiden European Junior Title a few weeks later. In the Women's, it was none other than current ASP World n°8 Bianca Buitendag (ZAF) 19, that came out victorious.
The quality beachbreaks of 'la côte sauvage' have shown to be a great proving ground for all up-and-comers and with a little luck from the weather, everything is set to enjoy four days of great surfing action in Royan and showcase it to the summer holiday crowds.
"This is definitely our biggest event here at the Surf Club Royan Atlantique," Isabelle Peyvel stated. "We are very lucky to host all those European talents for the first event of the season and are looking forward to seeing everyone in Royan, plus this year we've ordered some beautiful weather and waves !!"
The Soöruz Royan Atlantique Pro Junior is made possible with the support of the following event partners: Soöruz, Agglomération Royan Atlantique, Charentes-Maritime, Conseil Régional de Poitou-Charentes, l'Office National des Fôrets, Pitel, Station Nautique Royan Atlantique, Virgin Radio, MAAF, and Fédération Française de Surf amongst others.
