Opening day for the 2-Star Wave Riding Vehicles Outer Banks Pro presented by Pacifico and Hurley was greeted with fun three-to-four foot wind swell waves filling in to Jennette's Pier in Nags Head, North Carolina. Day 1 of competition saw the completion of both Round 1 and Round 2 in their entirety. Competitors took advantage of the playful conditions and can expect more surf in the next coming days for the remaining rounds.
One of the day's standout performances came from Aurelio Prieto (ECU) who advanced through his Round 1 heat in dramatic fashion. The goofy-footer dropped today's high score of 8.67 in his Round 1 Heat. A last-ditch effort in the dying seconds garnered him a score to see him into advancing position. Prieto is coming off of a recent injury and is surfing on borrowed equipment after all of his own boards were broken while traveling.
“I'm riding my friend Manuel's (Selman) boards and they are actually working so good," said Prieto. "This is my first time here to the Outer Banks and I was expecting small waves, but it's really fun. I could tell his board felt better going frontside, and I was lucky to get a good wave to get the 8.67 on. It was a fun heat an I'm stoked to advance.â€
The Ecuadorian went on to advance through his Round 2 heat as well, and will be ready to perform tomorrow in Round 3.
Colin Moran (USA), who is fresh off a Quarterfinal result at the Vans Pro Junior in Virginia Beach, made an impressive appearance in his Round 2 heat, pocketing a solid eight-point ride to put him ahead of former event champion Ben Bourgeois (USA).
“It was super fun out there next to the pier," said Moran. "I was the only one sitting there, I think because the blue crabs were biting, but I wore a wetsuit, and they weren't getting me too bad. I was joking around with everyone saying that if I beat Ben it would make my whole trip worth it. He's the man out here. I've never been to the Outer Banks before and it's super rad, I'm loving it.â€
East Coast up and comer Daniel Glenn (USA) took first in both his Round 1 and Round 2 heats today, looking in rhythm with the Outer Banks conditions. The young New Smyrna native even locked in a good barrel in his Round of 96 heat, showing superior wave selection among the other competitors.
“I had a good time out there," said Glenn. "I've surfed a lot of amateur contests here and I love these types of conditions. I was just hoping to get through these heats today so I could hopefully get some real waves tomorrow. It's awesome that this event is now an ASP event because it gives the chance to gain a couple more (Qualification Series) points.â€

A decisive day at the WRV Outer Banks Pro pres. by Pacifico scorched through Rounds 3 and 4 to set up a big finals day draw.
A decisive day unfolded at Sebastian Inlet and the final eight competitors at the Florida Pro Men's QS 1,500 are left standing.
The Floridian and Californian found near-perfection amid pristine conditions on opening day that all competitors relished.
Rounds 1 and 2 of the Ron Jon Vans Pro Men's QS1000 were completed as surprise performances and Top Seeds highlighted Day 1.

The contest at Nags Head, North Carolina, narrowed the field on a day with good waves and great performances.
