2013 ASP Japan Calendar event 4 MURASAKI SHONAN OPEN went into day 6 action this morning at Kugenuma Beach, Fujisawa, Kanagawa.
Today the event went on action for the round of 16 followed by the man on man quarters, semis, and final and crowned the 2013 edition event champion this afternoon.
The conditions at Kugenuma Beach this morning were 4 to 6 ft. (2 meter) with excellent weather.
Today ASP Japan Tour Manager Tosh Omi called the surfers this morning at 7:30AM at the first call to get in action for the round of 16 as well as the following schedule all the way to crown the 2013 event champion.
Semi finals heat 1 was a great showdown of Kaito Ohashi (JPN) who just made the semi finals in the 4 Star Event in Mexico last weak vs. Keoni Yan (PYF) who won the last years Murasaki Air show. Yan the only natural footer in the semis scores a 5.35 and 3.75 for a combined score of 9.10 points. In form surfer Ohashi scores a 7.00 and 6.50 points for his effort to make a combined score of 13.50 to move to the finals. Semi final heat 2 was an all goofy footer affair. Masatoshi Ohno (JPN) vs. 2012 2 Star Event in South Korea Champion Connor O'Leary(AUS ).O'Leary who scored the single highest wave score of the event at the quarters with an excellent score of 9.60 points scored a 6.90 backed up by a 6.30 for a combined score of 13.20points. Ohno went above O'Leary with a 7.60 and 7.35 for a combined score of 14.95points moves to the finals with Ohashi.
Finals were an all Japanese goofy footer final by Kaito Ohashi (JPN) in white and Masatoshi Ohno (JPN) in red. Ohashi scores a 6.75 and 6.40 points with his first 2 rides to make a combined score of 13.15. However Ohno who scored 2 excellent scores in the finals of 8.25 and 8.20 makes a Combined score of 16.45points and claims a win.

Next stop on 2013 ASP Japan Calendar will be ASP 4 Star Event, BILLABONG PRO TAHARA presented by Xperia to be held the coming July 25th thru July 28th at Akabane Kaigan, Tahara-shi, Aichi-ken.
The main venue for the event was Matsunami Chikado Mae point in Kugenuma beach which is right in the center of Shonan Area. Fujisawa in Kanagawa centered at iconic Enoshima is a well renowned area for tourists especially in the summer months. Last year the event focused on the pro junior action but this year the event upgraded the star event to 3 Star statuses. The summer festa leading to the "Uminohi" Ocean Day holiday for the next weekend should attract all attentions. After July 1st the beaches are officially in season in the Kanto region. Along with the next 4 Star events to be held in the 3rd week of July at Tahara in Aichi, this attracts the finest surfers worldwide to Japan for the 2 events. The official waiting period for the 3 Star events commenced July 8th, Monday, along with the body boarding JPBA event to commence July 13th, Saturday.
MURASAKI SHONAN OPEN following the 4 Star event QUIKSILVER OPEN JAPAN which was held from May 29th to June 2nd, "MURASAKI SHONAN OPEN" upgrade for the 2013 edition to 3 Star statuses with US$55,000- prize money on offer makes it the 2nd largest surfing event in Japan for 2013 attracts 96 of the finest surfers worldwide to the event.
