Ryota Matsushita Takes Win At Murasaki Shonan Open 2014

Kugenuma Beach Shonan, Fujisawa, Kanagawa （Monday, July 21st, 2014)

Today was the final day for 2014 ASP Japan Tour Event, Men's 3 Star event "MURASAKI SHONAN OPEN 2014" at Kugenuma Beach, Fujisawa, Kanagawa.

Today the event went on schedule with the round of 64 all the way and crowned the champion later this afternoon.

The conditions at Kugenuma Beach this morning were 1 to 2 ft. clean conditions with beautiful weather.

Today ASP Japan Tour official called the surfers this morning 6AM at the first call to be on stand by and at second call at 9AM called for the athletes to get in action starting at 9:30AM.

In testy conditions 3 local surfers and 1 Australian surfer moves to the finals. Connor O'Leary (AUS) who finished 9th in June at Baja California was standing 93rd in the WQS rankings prior to this event. O'Leary shows he can score in any conditions and scores a 6.75 for his effort in the final which is the highest score of the entire event.

The local surfers Hamase scores 4.50 and 3.80 for a combined score of 8.30 and finishes the event at 4th. Local surfer Kobayashi scores a 6.00 and 4.50 for a combined score of 10.50points and finishes 3rd. O'Leary backs up his high score with a 4.00 to make a combined score of 10.75 but this was not enough to overcome another local surfer Matsushita with a 5.80 and 5.60 for a combined score of 11.40. Ryota Matsushita is MURASAKI SHONAN OPEN 2014 champion!

1st, 750Pts, U$8,000: Ryota Matsushita (JPN) 2nd, 563Pts, U$4,000: Connor O'Leary 3rd, 422Pts, U$2,500: Naomi Kobayashi 4th, 369Pts, U$2,000: Kai Hamase

Next stop on 2014 ASP JAPAN TOUR is Junior Men's, Junior Girl's、and Cadet(U16), ＄5,000-, 1STR event, "Go Pro Junior" at Tsurigasaki Beach, Ichinomiya, Chiba next August 2nd and 3rd.
