Junior Men and Women crowned as action moves Big Bay at Bloubergstrand for Day 2
Blouberg, Cape Town - With a somewhat more settled ocean, the venue for the second day of the Jordy Smith Cape Town Surf Pro pres by O'Neill moved across to Big Bay, where light offshore winds fanned three to five-foot rights and lefts, and there was no shortage of high performance action from all the competitors.

In the Men's QS 1,000 it was J-Bay's Matthew McGillivray who once again shone, surfing with the determination and hunger of someone who knows what he has to do to succeed. Unfortunately another J-Bay surfer in Dylan Lightfoot was the surprise elimination in round three, failing to find a decent second wave in the widely-spread Big Bay line-up.

Chad Du Toit from Durban turned up his performance levels in the Big Bay right-handers, picking up some bombs and scoring highly to win his heat comfortably. Dylan Groen from Germany continued to produce surprises, coming in second and advancing along with Du Toit.

Another South African surfer Adin Masencamp surfed fast and strong, and managed to advance to the quarterfinals, along with Slade Prestwich from Durban. Masencamp's performance at Tubewave yesterday saw him bank a 9-point ride, followed by an 8-point ride, the best heat score of the day in what he described as "one of the best heats I've surfed all year." In today's performance it was Slade who dominated with two unusual 7.10 pocket scores, narrowly beating Masencamp into the second spot. Masencamp is currently fourth on the WSL Africa QS rankings and chasing a wildcard slot into the upcoming Ballito Pro pres by Billabong.
The Women's JQS 1,000 event was an all-South African nail-biter, with the current crop of junior surfers focused, and intent on winning. The positions changed throughout the action-packed final, but when Kai Woolf earned an 8.25 - the highest single wave score of the final, she secured the lead and remained there till the end. Zoë Steyn fought back hard but couldn't wrest the lead from Woolf and finished in second place, with Kayla Nogueira and Sophie Bell in the minor spots.

In the Men's JQS 1,000 it was Jolan Bonelli from Reunion, Karl Steen from Durban, Brazilian surfer Eduardo Motta and Max Elkington from Cape Town who surfed phenomenally thoughout the day to advance through to their final.
Steen started strong, with Bonelli hot on his heels in the last light of the day, as the Springboks kicked off against England in their test match rugby encounter in Bloemfontein. But Bonelli found some gems and performed a number of high-risk moves in the high tide Big Bay conditions to secure a strong lead that he held until the final siren, with Steen in second, Motta in third and Elkington in fourth.
Stormy conditions are expected to return to Cape Peninsula on Sunday when the QS 1,000 Men's and Woemn's titles will be decided
