The day before the Pe'ahi Challenge kicked off, Paige Alms bumped into Ian Walsh at the gym. She looked at him and said something to the effect of, "Let's do this." Well, both surfers held up their end of the bargain and were crowned Champs at the legendary big-wave event. Alms won her back-to-back title with the same tactics as Walsh -- sit out the back and wait for bomb sets to arrive. For Alms, this late drop on a large set wave sealed the victory and helped keep the women's winner's trophy in Maui for another year.
