A new swell rocks up to Pantin and allows competition to start in both the men and women's events on opening day.
The 30th Edition of the Pull&Bear Pantin Classic Galicia Pro wasted no time to get underway as an impressive field of 216 surfers awaited the green light from the event's officials.
The first call at 10 a.m got everyone anxious about conditions on day one but as soon as the tide started to drop, first signs of a new swell started appearing. By 12:30 p.m it actually became contestable and the first heat quickly paddled out.
Vahine Fierro and Ellie Brooks had a blast in Heats 5 and 6 of the women's opening round. It might have been the perfect time for that particular sand bank, or just the raw talent of the two surfers, but they surfed way better than anyone else in the same conditions.

"The waves were a little bit hard to surf but thankfully I got the good ones and stayed busy out there," Vahine said. "This morning was completely flat and I didn't think we'd be running today but right now the waves are kind of fun."
"We've been here for a few days and had a stopover in London on the way from Australia so the jet lag is definitely gone," Ellie added. "It's nice to finally get some waves, you can tell it's a new swell, with lulls between sets but there was a good bank out there so it was fun!"

Meah Collins wrapped up the women's opening round with a good performance as well, advancing into the top seeds round where she will match up with recent Anglet winner Coco Ho.
"I came here with my dad when I was like 11 or something, I was small and kind of nervous," Meah admitted. "I'm more confident, more experienced and a lot bigger now so I can go out there and compete with the other girls. I feel very comfortable here, I love Pantin it's one of my favorite places to visit."
In the men's, only Vicente Romero really managed to get two good waves in under the 25 minutes he was allocated. The Spaniard paddled all over the place to start on a record 10 waves, out of which he built a solid 14.50 heat total.

"I've been training a lot here for another event before this one and my board feels great, so I'm stoked," he said. "I've lost a few heats recently that were way too close, so my goal is to surf much better than the other guys so there's no question on the scores."
Organizers have called an 8:15 a.m decision Wednesday morning for the men's remaining Round One heats, while the women are off for the day and will have a next call on Thursday.
