In the best conditions Zippers has had in recent memory for the Los Cabos Open of Surf, Silvana Lima became its 2017 champion. The Brazilian has put relentless effort into this event with two runner-up results and finally found the recipe for her first victory here victory. The 6,000 points push Lima into the No. 2 spot on the QS ratings before heading back to Brazil for some time away from the competitive jersey.
"I feel so happy, I can't thank everyone from here enough for all their support over the years so this for all of them," Lima said. "Bronte is such an amazing surfer and it was great to surf against her in that Final. That was the first time I wasn't nervous out there and just kept telling myself to surf my best, and that's all I need to do."

The 34-year-old charged through two fellow CT competitors starting with Keely Andrew in the Semifinals where she posted an excellent 8.17 before backing it up with another 8.77. Lima continued that brilliance into the Final with another 8.17 over last year's champion Bronte Macaulay and solidified her win.
"It's a proud moment that I'll never forget after getting so close every year and now to win is a dream come true," Lima added. "I'm so comfortable out here with all the guys telling me, 'this is your year.' and I started to believe it more and more. This is great confidence to take home and start training for the Supergirl, but I'm going to enjoy this day and just soak it all in."

Macaulay returned to her second consecutive Final in Los Cabos after taking down Sage Erickson in the Semifinals and fell just short of a repeat to an unstoppable Lima. But, this marks the Aussie's best result of 2017 and can now head into the summer break with some confidence as she moves to No. 3 on the QS.
"I feel like Silvana was the best surfer in this event and she posted up so many good heats so I knew it'd be a tough one," Macaualy said. "I'm a little disappointed in my surfing, but it felt good to get going on the QS. It'll be great to spend some time at home after a quick stay in California, then head back there for the QS and CT leg."

One of this year's Los Cabos standout performers, Keely Andrew, adds another big keeper result after making the Semis in Cabo and now boasts 7,750 points. The current CT No. 11 has time to breathe now after the rush of Dream Tour and QS events before turning her eyes on Oceanside, California.
"This was a great run for me and obviously I needed the points after only doing the two events in Australia at the start of the year," Andrew said. "To make the Semis is great confidence-booster for the rest of the year. It'll be so great to go home and catch up with friends, and just train a bunch because after Supergirl it's another long leg like this last one. I want a good result there with it being a good lead-up to the US Open which is where my focus really lies."

Sage Erickson matched her best QS result of 2017 with a Semifinal finish behind runner-up Macaulay after tearing apart this event. The Ventura, California, native will look for a big summer run in both the QS and CT, where she currently sits at No. 9 among the Top 17.
