Rumors are flying as to how and why surfers selected their new jersey numbers for 2015. South African Jordy Smith, who ripped his way through Round 1, put the guesses to bed on Instagram. -- @jordysmith88: Pretty happy about the history of my number... First of all I chose the number 23 because of Michael Jordan. When I was young I always wanted to be great at a sport and I shared the same with names with him, only mine is Jordan Michael. To add to it my house number for 23 years was number 23... Kinda weird.. My parents did not plan this I swear 😜 When I was around 3 or 4 my parents got me into soccer and I grew to really love it. I still enjoy playing the odd game with friends when I get a chance! Because of this I grew up watching David Beckham, one of the worlds best and most iconic

Lee-Ann Curren (FRA), daughter of 3-time World Champ Tom Curren (USA), was on hand to support the Roxy Pro. She got her Om on with WSL commentator Rosy Hodge. Could Hodge be using yoga to channel results for her Fantasy Surfing picks? -- @lacurren: Everyone was done but me and @rosyhodge were stuck in the spirit world - next @ROXY free yoga session will be on Wednesday 8am at the contest site. #RoxyReady #RoxyFitness

Is this the foamie ride of a future professional surfer? Glenn Hall (IRL) spent his lay day passing along the stoke of surfing to his child. -- @glenhall81: Lay day with the family. So much fun!
Judging by the reception Brazilian World Champ Gabriel Medina received on the beach after his Round 1 heat, he needs to do little more in the water to earn fans' devotion. Still, he melted hearts when he posted a happy birthday pic for his cousin. -- @gabrielmedina: Feliz aniversario Valele! Te amo #Valentina #Priminha #2

Tour rookie Tatiana Weston-Webb (HAW) missed the direct advance to Round 3 at the Roxy Pro Gold Coast by a mere .14 points, after Carissa Moore (HAW) nabbed a score in the last 20 seconds of the heat. A cuddly new friend helped her keep her spirits up -- which she hardly needed, after beating Bianca Buitendag the very next day. -- @tatiwest: the best day ever... I'm your biggest fan mr.koala
