Event Guide: Oakberry Tweed Coast Pro
Event Information
The Tweed Coast Pro is back in 2022 as a men's and women's WSL QS 5000 rated event and a junior men's and women's WSL JUN 1000 rated event. Run at Cabarita Beach in the beautiful Tweed; the location provides competitors with spectacular surfing conditions. Backup beaches within a 15-minute drive are also available as event locations, providing surfers and spectators ease of access to the best waves nearby. As an important stop on the Qualifying Series and Junior Tour, surfers will travel from around the country to compete in the Tweed Coast Pro to win WSL points and prize money.
The Tweed Coast Pro runs across seven days, beginning with the men's and women's QS 5000 event running from 21 March to 25 March and finishing with the JUN 1000 event from 25 March to 27 March. While this may change throughout the week, typically, the day starts with the call at 6:30 am for a 7 am start, before wrapping up by 5 pm (DST) each day.
As a Qualifying Series (QS) event, the Tweed Coast Pro is one of the many events surfers compete in each year, with the ultimate goal of earning points to qualify for the Championship Tour in the following year. The number of points offered at each QS event varies from 1000 to 5000, with a higher number of points generally indicating better competition and more prize money.
In the Tweed region, the average water temperature at this time of year ranges from 24oC to 26oC. Meanwhile, the average air temperature is 21oC to 25oC.
The recommended wetsuit for this event is either boardies, a spring suit, or a short-arm steamer.
Live event broadcast from Monday 21st to Friday 25th on the WSL website.
