Hawaii had a big Pacific storm to thank for all the press this week. In and out of competition, Championship Tour surfers, legends and XXL chargers all took advantage. Here are the moments that shined brightest.
WaveOfTheWinter
There are party waves -- and then there's what Mark Healey (HAW) and Michael Ho (HAW) managed to do last week at Pipe. Just ahead of the Volcom Pipe Pro, the pair pulled into a barrel, found cover and came out with the spit, together. The wave blew up the web and heated up Surfline's Wave of the Winter contest.
VolcomPipePro
Yes, the Qualifying Series (QS) event was hot again this week thanks to a big finish. The Volcom Pipe Pro came down to a stacked Final featuring 11-time World Champion Kelly Slater (USA), local wunderkind John John Florence (HAW), Championship Tour veteran Sebastian Zietz (HAW) and QS-thriller Mason Ho (HAW). Consequently, the heavyweight showcase has had a long shelf-life.
Florence triumphs again, with his fourth win at the event.
Jaws #Waimea
Last week was all about Paige Alms (HAW) and arguably the biggest wave ridden at Jaws by a woman. But as the noise around Alms became a hum, new epic rides and epic failures began to surface. Here's a peek at one of the worst:
