CAPBRETON, France (Tuesday, March 5 2013) – The Quiksilver and Roxy Pro Gold Coast are now well and truly underway at the iconic break of Snapper Rocks, Coolangatta. Quarter-finalists of the Women's event were decided on Monday with the excellent performances of France's Pauline Ado earning her a spot in the last eight standing,

For her third consecutive season amongst the Elite ASP Top 17, Ado (FRA) 22 started her 2013 campaign with a strong display of her best surfing abilities to win her first round bout. Facing a lethal former World Champion Carissa Moore (HAW) in the third round, Ado was defeated but went on to claim her ticket for the quarters against Laura Enever (AUS).

"I was focusing on my waves," Ado stated. "I tried to improve on my waves all the time and I'm stoked to win that one. The wave here is so long, if you give everything in all your turns your legs are burning by the end of the wave. Then you have that super long paddle and you want to go fast to catch more waves and keep getting scores, so yeah I'm exhausted but happy !!"

Tension rose another notch last night (European time) when the Men's first round of competition was launched in playful 3-4Ft surf at Rainbow bay. With the incredible lineup of talents on tour this season, every single heat was a must-see and make sure you catch all the best action with the heat review tool if you won't stay up all night.

Michel Bourez (PYF) 27, was the only European last night to capitalize on his first round, posting an excellent heat total of 16.43 to defeat World #10 Owen Wright (AUS) and WCT rookie Filipe Toledo (BRA) and move directly into the third round. Despite both adversaries posting a near-perfect score in the 9+ range, Bourez's consistency and wave selection offered him a slight advantage and the overall heat lead.

"It was hard to find the right ones and you had to wait for the one with a good wall on it.." Bourez said. "That's what I did, I found those two eights and after I was looking for a nine cause those guys had a high nine each but it never came ! I heard Filipe did a big alley-oop and I was waiting to try something big and make the difference but it didn't happen.."

Glenn Hall (IRL), Tiago Pires (PRT) and Jeremy Flores (FRA) on the other hand all posted good scores in their heats but couldn't match respectively Jordy Smith (ZAF), Gabriel Medina (BRA) and Brett Simpson (USA) and will surf in the elimination second round to try to advance and keep their 2013 Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast campaign alive !

Other notable facts of the day include the impressive domination of local superstar Mick Fanning (AUS) and 11 times World Champion Kelly Slater (USA), the return to great form of South-Africa's Jordy Smith, and the surprise defeat of reigning World Champion Joel Parkinson (AUS) on his homeground by a raging Matt Wilkinson (AUS).
