COOLANGATTA, QLD (Monday, 9 December 2013) - Surfing NSW and ASP are delighted to announce a new forthcoming 1-Star ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series event, The 2014 Carve Pro Junior at Maroubra.

The new ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series event will be factored into the three-day Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage, which will kick off on the eastern Sydney beach on the 17th of January, 2014.

The forthcoming event is the first time Carve have sponsored an ASP sanctioned event and Carve Director Matt Whyte is excited to see the event pair up with the renowned Teenage Rampage event.

"We are very excited about our first ever ASP event, The Carve Pro Junior. This is a huge milestone for Carve," said Whyte. "Over the years Carve has been involved in many great community surfing and snow events. With plenty of planning, we are looking to build the Pro Junior event in the future years. We see the Carve Pro Junior as a stepping stone for more ASP events both domestically and internationally."

ASP Australasia General Manager Dane Jordan added: "The ASP Australasia Pro Junior Series is looking incredibly strong for 2014. This is exciting because it will give our surfers greater opportunities to develop their competitive craft and gain confidence and experience to make a career out of professional surfing. It's also great to see the growth in support for grass-roots events like this that are now stepping to ASP Pro Junior level. On behalf of ASP I'd like to thank Surfing NSW, Carve, Ocean and Earth for their support now and into the future."

Last year, the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage series was fine-tuned and compressed into an elite event that ran at Maroubra during the Christmas school holidays. 2014 will be no different and looks set to see some of Australia's most promising junior surfers partaking in the event.

"We're overjoyed by the fact Carve have come to the party and will host a Pro Junior alongside the Teenage Rampage event," said Ocean and Earth spokesman and former World Championship Tour surfer Phil MacDonald. "The ASP Australasian Pro Junior Series is something that provides Aussie junior surfers with the perfect pathway towards the World Championship Tour and we are stoked to be affiliated with the series for this event."

The Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage and The Carve Pro Junior are the first major surfing events held at Maroubra since the NSW State Junior Titles in July 2013. Surfing NSW CEO Mark Windon is looking forward to seeing such a high caliber event return to the eastern Sydney beach.

"Maroubra has a history of staging great surfing events and we believe the Carve Pro Junior and the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage will continue to build on that legacy," said Windon. "Last year we saw an overwhelmingly positive response to all the events we staged at Maroubra and can't wait to see what this event delivers when it kicks off in 2014."

The three-day event is also looking to shortly announce a local market day, professional skating demonstrations and live music.

The Carve Pro Junior and the Ocean and Earth Teenage Rampage are proudly sponsored by Be the Influence - Tackling Binge Drinking, Carve, Ocean and Earth, Randwick City Council, Australian Skin Cancer Clinics, Souths Juniors, Walshs Pharmacy, Ohana Ocean Athletics, ASP Australasia and Surfing NSW.
