GRANDE PLAGE, Lacanau / France – Only a couple of weeks separate us from the start of the annual Soöruz Lacanau Pro and Lacanau Pro Junior. The first QS event this season on European soil, Lacanau will also be Stop No.3 of 4 in the regional junior title race.
As always the iconic stop in Lacanau is raising hype and an A-list of surfers will convene to battle it out and rack up important points towards the QS rankings and potential World Championship Tour qualification. Current ranked No.6 Keanu Asing (HAW) will take on a crowd of hungry European and International surfers including Patrick Gudauskas (USA) and Jack Freestone (AUS) amongst others to defend his number one seed.
France's Charly Martin will look to repeat his 2013 performance - WSL / Laurent Masurel
Reigning event champion Charly Martin (GLP) sitting in 9th position will also be joining the troups and will need another big result in Lacanau to keep his hopes of joining the 2015 Top34 alive.
On the Junior scene, after two events the race is tight for a place in the Top4 synonym of qualification for the World Junior Championships. Rankings leader Vasco Ribeiro (PRT) suffered a shock early-elimination in the Basque Country last week and will need to be back to top form to keep his direct opponents Natxo Gonzalez (EUK) and Timothee Bisso (GLP) at a distance.
Thanks to the community efforts after this past winter storms that destroyed the iconic beaches of Lacanau, the idyllic little summer town is set to host yet another classic edition of the Soöruz Lacanau Pro.
