World Surf League Returns to Japan This September With Five Back-to-Back Events

COOLANGATTA, QLD, Australia (Thursday, August 15, 2024) - The World Surf League is excited to announce five back-to-back regional events in Japan to take place this September. Three WSL Qualifying Series (QS) and two WSL Pro Junior events are set to attract Asia's best up-and-coming talent as they look to qualify for the 2025 Challenger Series and World Junior Championships.
"Japan is a country with so much passion for surfing," said WSL APAC President Andrew Stark. "Japan has a massive surfing population and talent pool of competitors all looking to make their mark. This is a really important region for the WSL, and a leg of events like this is a testament to the sport's popularity. We'd like to thank the licensees for helping to get these events off the ground, and we look forward to watching the action this September."
All the action will kick off in the playful beach break peaks of Omaezaki Long Beach on September 4-8 at the whitebuffalo OMAEZAKI Pro QS 3000 in Omaezaki City, Shizuoka.
Competitors will then head south to Kisakihama, Miyazaki, for the IBK Miyazaki Pro QS 3000 and Pro Junior from September 11-14. For the first time in over five years, Miyazaki returns to the professional surfing calendar.
The final stop, The IBK Hyuga Pro, will see professional surfing once again return to Okuragahama Beach, Hyuga. This year the event will be upgraded from a QS 1000 to a QS 3000, a massive coup for professional surfing in Japan. It will also host a Pro Junior event during the window. The IBK Hyuga Pro will run from September 17-21.
