South Africa's well-mannered madman.
As much of a thrill seeker as he is a hardened competitor, Matty McGillivray is a product of the ridiculously surf rich and adventure ready country where he grew up: 1,700 miles (2,800km) of wave-riddled coastline, stretching from the Namibian Skeleton Coast on the west, along the Garden Route passed Jeffreys Bay, the Transkei, into Durban, and finally to the Northeastern border of Mozambique.
Matty McGillivray showed the world his comfort level in critical conditions last year, with his inverted airdrop to deep Teahupo'o pit for a 10-point ride at the 2022 Tahiti Pro.
