Professional Surfing Action Returns to New South Wales in 2024 with NSW Pro Surf Series
WSL
COOLANGATTA, Queensland / AUS (Monday, January 15, 2024) - The World Surf League (WSL) Asia Pacific (APAC) and Surfing NSW are excited to announce the return of the NSW Pro Surf Series in 2024. The series will see two WSL Qualifying Series (QS) events this February and March, with the spotlight shining on Port Stephens Pro QS 1000 and the Central Coast Pro QS 3000, which will once again be co-sanctioned with the Asia Region.
The events will once again offer athletes and travellers the opportunity to enjoy these picturesque, wave-rich pockets of the NSW coast. Their return is thanks to a continued partnership between Surfing NSW, the WSL, The NSW Government, Destination NSW, and the councils of Port Stephens and Central Coast.
"This will be the ninth consecutive year running for the NSW Pro Surf Series, and since its conception in 2016, it has become a key asset to our pathways and community," said Surfing NSW Chairman John O'Neill, "We consider ourselves incredibly grateful that these events are able to showcase how lucky we are to live in NSW, put on such great events for our community of surfers and allow local businesses to showcase their services and region to the world."
The NSW Pro Surf Series QS events have become a cornerstone in fostering talent not only from the state of NSW but from the Asia Pacific region and beyond.
"The WSL is excited to return to New South Wales for the 2024 regional Qualifying Series," said WSL APAC Regional Tour Manager Ty Sorati. "Port Stephens and The Central Coast have become staples on our regional schedule and, year after year, deliver awesome conditions for our surfers to compete in. We look forward to continuing our great relationship with Surfing NSW in 2024 and can't wait to see the next crop of up-and-comers qualify for the next Challenger Series season."
Designed to elevate Australian surfers in the global rankings, the NSW Pro Surf Series also provides a road-trip blueprint for travelling athletes and their entourages, specifically timed and located to invite the ultimate exploration of NSW's coastline.
The Minister for Tourism, John Graham, has expressed his enthusiasm, acknowledging the series as a showcase of the NSW coastline and a boost for the Australian surfing community.
