Fresh off becoming the 2022 WSL World Junior Champion, Jarvis Earle comes into the Oakberry Tweed Coast Pro as the event favourite and the Cronulla goofy-foot didn't disappoint. Earle showed his incredible repertoire, going left and right, performing turns and airs to post an excellent 16.50 two-wave combination, the highest of the event so far. After claiming a career-defining accolade less than a month ago, Earle is competing with a relaxed attitude, and it showed on his way to Finals Day on the Tweed Coast.
"I'm still on a bit of a high after my World Title win," Earle said. "Knowing that I've achieved that goal and have locked in a spot on the Challenger Series already has taken a lot of pressure off of these events, and I'm definitely able to relax and just enjoy these comps. It was so good to have a heat win this morning. I banked a 7 and an 8.5 almost immediately in that heat, so I was just able to enjoy the rest of my time in the water and just surf."

Other men's standouts on Day 1 included Harley Walters (AUS), who looked super comfortable in one of his first WSL Pro Junior appearances to take a heat win and dispatch of the reigning Tweed Coast Pro Junior winner Lennix Smith (AUS). Challenger Series competitor Joel Vaughan (AUS) also looked solid, posting an excellent 8.33 on his way to the Round of 32. Local ripper Dane Henry (AUS) was also in good touch, posting the second highest heat total of the day with a 15.83 two-wave total.
Reigning Oakberry Tweed Coast Pro Junior event winner Sierra Kerr (AUS) got her title defence off to the perfect start, winning her opening round heat at Cabarita. Kerr combined her fins-free approach with powerful rail turns to post a two-wave heat total of 13.34 and progress into the Quarterfinals.
Jordy Halford and Charli Hurst also put on solid performances in the Round of 32 to claim heat victories and progress into the Quarterfinals.
