TWEED COAST, New South Wales / Australia (Tuesday, December 20, 2022) - The World Surf League (WSL) Asia Pacific (APAC) will see the 2023 Australian leg of events kick off, with the Oakberry Tweed Coast Pro, which will be returning next year to host both a Pro Junior and Qualifying Series (QS) 5,000 event.

There will be high anticipation, as over 200 competitors, mainly from Australia and New Zealand, descend on the Tweed Coast looking to qualify for both the 2023 World Junior Championships and the Challenger Series, the gateway to the elite Championship Tour. The event will return in 2023, thanks to the ongoing support of the New South Wales Government.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW, Paul Toole said; ​​"This event will be a great opportunity for locals and visitors alike to see some of Australia's most talented surfers doing what they do best, riding some great waves in the stunning Tweed Coast surf. The 2023 Tweed Coast Pro will build on the success of the 2021 and 2022 events which saw surfing fans flock to the region to support their favourite surfers, all while supporting the local economy. With the popularity from previous World Surf League events attracting visitors from right around the country, and the event being live streamed around the world, this event is a fantastic opportunity to promote this region and the broader event."

Member for Tweed, Geoff Provest ,said the Regional Events Acceleration Fund is supporting the growth of existing regional events and attracting new major domestic and international events to regional NSW.

"We are serious about investing in regional events and tourism and the Regional Events Acceleration Fund will put more heads on beds, fill restaurants and cafés, and help drive growth in regional NSW," Mr Provest said. "The fund has already supported more than 100 events and attracted an estimated one million visitors to the regions."

WSL APAC President Andrew Stark said. "The WSL APAC is excited to see the 2023 Aussie leg get underway in February at the Oakberry Tweed Coast Pro Qualifying Series and Pro Junior events. It's going to be a massive few months of professional surfing action around Australia and it will all get underway here on the Tweed Coast once again. This event is an extremely important part of the professional surfing pathway for up and coming competitors with the points and prize money earned here helping surfers on their quest to join the elite WSL Championship Tour. The event will also bring over 100 competitors and support staff into the area as well as shine a light on the beauty of the Tweed Coast through our global live broadcast. We'd like to thank the New South Wales Government and Regional New South Wales for coming onboard to support this event once again along with the Tweed Coast Shire and local community."

The Oakberry Tweed Coast Pro is also proudly supported by Oakberry, the official Acai of the WSL APAC. Oakberry will continue to partner with the WSL across four major events in Australia in 2023.

The 2023 Tweed coast Pro will run from February 10 - 16 on the Tweed Coast.
