After the last event of the Australian Championship Tour leg, Griffin Colapinto and Seth Moniz stopped in Queensland and treated themselves to pumping Kirra on the way home.
The famous wave might be on the other side of the continent to Rottnest Island in Western Australia, but when you get a chance to hang with three-time World Champion Mick Fanning and surf one of the best waves in the country you go the extra mile.
In the latest episode of the Cola Bros vlog, the crew takes us back to the Rip Curl Rottnest Search presented by Corona, where Colapinto took down event wildcard and WA legend, Taj Burrow.
Then they scored all-time conditions at Kirra, the famed righthander, with plenty of wide-open barrels on tap for the squad.
Aside from the edit showcasing some incredible surfing and a throwback to Australia, we can't help but draw similarities to the sand-bottomed point that we'll see as the next stop on Tour, the Corona Open Mexico presented by Quiksilver.
Colapinto, perched at No. 5 on the WSL Leaderboard, is having his best season yet. He's has finished in third place three times, first at the Rip Curl Narrabeen Classic second at the Boost Mobile Margaret River Pro, and once again at the Jeep Surf Ranch Pro.
If his persistent presence on Finals Day -- or the solid barrel-to-turn-combo surfing that he displays at Kirra -- is any indication of how Colapinto will be surfing in the final two events of the season, we could very well see him as the lone American at the Rip Curl WSL Finals this September.
