*On behalf of the Andrews Labor Government, welcome to Australia's premier sporting and events state, and proud host of the 2019 Phillip Island Pro QS1,000.
Victoria lives and breathes sport, and no one puts on a show like we do. We're home to an array of water-sports events, none bigger than the famous Rip Curl Pro held at Bells Beach each Easter.
Over the next week, Phillip Island's renowned Woolamai break will be home to the Pro QS1,000, part of the World Surf League Qualifying Series.
More than 145 of the world's brightest surfing talents will battle it out for trophies and an opportunity to earn a spot on the pro tour.
The Labor Government is proud to have locked in this feature on the Australian sporting calendar until 2021, through our $17.7 million Significant Sporting Events Program.
More than 650 events across the state have been funded through the Significant Sporting Events Program, providing jobs and boosting local economies.
When you're not watching the wave-slicing action at the Pro, I encourage you to explore the many attractions of the beautiful Phillip Island region.
Phillip Island and the Bass Coast have the best of everything - stunning beaches, rolling hills in the rural hinterland, wildlife, wineries and quality foodie options.
I wish all the surfers the very best of luck and hope that spectators enjoy a stunning edition of the Phillip Island Pro QS 1000.*
