Over 120 international surfers have arrived at one of surfing's most remote and fabled locations for the annual Nias Pro QS3,000 Men's and QS1,000 Women's.
From far away nations like Peru, Japan, South Africa, USA, Australia and many more, a highly skilled field of surfers have made the journey in anticipation of scoring arguably the world's best point break for this highly prestigious title.
As a QS3,000 and Women's 1,000 held in perfect waves, the event offers a unique opportunity for surfers to pick up excellent ranking points and prize money.
Event organiser Tipi Jabrik has been instrumental in delivering the best waves to the Asia WSL tour and raising this event to QS3,000 level after last years incredible event.
"This is another fantastic event for Indonesia and along with elevating Men to QS3,000 this year we are having Indonesia's President Joko Widodo visit the event for finals weekend, along with three ministers of Government," Jabrik said. "It's such a great wave and the field of international surfers along with Indonesia's best will make for an amazing week of surfing."
Surfers warmed up today in fun clean three-feet Nias and the exciting news is that a true Nias swell is due to arrive for the opening day of the event and it's expected to maintain all the way through to the finals weekend.
Perfect barrels, ideal on face sections and big turns will be what the international judging panel will reward and for sure this will be another epic WSL Asia Tour event.
