Quiksilver and Roxy Junior Pro 40's event partner Ocean 52 rounded up a crew of motivated teens to initiate a beach cleaning session this afternoon in Capbreton, and jumped on the opportunity to educate beach-goers about the issues our oceans face and the pollution that reaches our shores.

"The idea with these operations is mainly to raise awareness about all the plastic pollution in the ocean," Nicolas Dazet, Ocean 52 head of communication said. "Usually in summer the beaches are quite clean so we're going to focus on micro-plastics and spend an hour on the beach with some of the surfers in the event, the public etc. picking up everything we can. After that we come back and go through it all together and explain to people where all these types of trash come from and what really simple actions can help reduce them."
The most common items picked up included fish nets, cigarette buts, lollipop sticks and cotton buds as well as various waste from fishing vessels and items carried by nearby rivers up the coast.
Coincidently, a local association of residents in Capbreton (Le Comité de Quartier 3) decided to take the education of tourists and locals one step further with a bold artistic project. Supported by the city council of Capbreton and companies Leroy Merlin, Côte Sud Peintures, Pébéo, the committee enrolled local artists Julie Escaffre, Agathe Toman, Sara Pasternak and Bizmut to create four massive paintings on the iconic blockhouses on the beach.
The project features punchlines like "Don't Feed the Ocean", "Protect Your Dunes", "Sun Shine & Clean Sand" and "Green Mind, Green Life" with visuals painted on the walls and roofs of the ancient war-built structures. Check out the below video from PIX & FLY.
