Tiare Thompson came out swinging against Costa Rican representatives Eva Woodland, Rubiana Brownell and Paulina Summers. The 17-year-old put her knowledge of Soup Bowl to great use and garnered the heat's highest single-wave score of 7.17 (out of a possible 10). While a 2018 World Junior Championship spot is out of reach after Samantha Sibley performance yesterday, it's not slowing down the Californian's goal of finishing strong.
"It was getting pretty dark yesterday so I'm glad they waited even though it was looking really fun," Thompson said. "It felt so good to get a solid wave out there since they were few and far between with a dropping tide. I feel like I've surfed her a bunch and know how it breaks now so I'm really comfortable out there. I'm still thinking why not, lets just take the win -- that's what I'm all about and it's been a really inspiring year with a few Finals so I'm excited for next season already."

Woodland also secured her place with a second Semifinal appearance of 2018 after a third-place at the Ron Jon Roxy Junior Pro put her in the running for a World Junior Championship spot to start the year. But, a few mistakes sent her down the rankings and will look for one last push here to cap the season off with a bang.

Samantha Sibley claimed the No. 2 spot outright with her astonishing finish to the first Quarterfinal heat in Wednesday's action.
A 7:30 a.m. AST call will determine an 8:00 a.m. AST start for Semifinal action.
