"We're stoked to continue to elevate the experience for both the athletes and the spectators at the Outer Banks Pro," said Event Director LG Shaw. "The atmosphere at this event is second-to-none with everyone having a good time, both in the jersey and spectators who come to watch, so to have the women add to that and bring a new dynamic is something we're looking forward to. It's only natural that the outstanding talent that the new generation of women are showing is given an opportunity to shine at one of the most beautiful locations on the QS."

Shaw and his team have delivered since 2014 and continue to provide these opportunities for upcoming surfers in need of finding their feet among the QS. A live webcast will be featured once more to see some of these upcoming women such as East Coast surfer Kayla Durden. The Jacksonville Beach, Florida, native has been working on building her professional surfing foundation, and events like these are vital to help a competitor do so.
"Besides the Florida Pro 6,000 to start the year, this is the only other QS event on the East Coast and I hope we keep seeing more and more," Durden said. "Having one this close to home removes a lot of the traveling stress. This event is huge for me. The QS is so competitive and doing 6000's is great but there are a lot high seeds so it makes it difficult to make multiple rounds to really get the kind of points I would need to build my seeding. I withdrew from the events in Europe to do this one instead because this event provides me with huge home field advantage. For me this event just makes sense and I hope to really capitalize on the opportunity."

North America General Manager Meg Bernardo has been at the helm for nearly three decades and has watched women's surfing progress more each year. With three more women's events being added to the North America schedule in 2018, including the Essential Costa Rica Open and Pismo Beach Open, Bernardo is optimistic that event directors are still willing to put in the extra effort to secure more contests.
"This is a great addition to our Women's QS schedule and we're thrilled to see LG put it together," Bernardo said. "Surfing is in a constant state of evolving, so whenever we're given the opportunity to gain new events it shows there's still that commitment to grow our sport. We're beyond grateful guys like LG who continue to produce events here in the States for our surfers to gain points."
The WRV Outer Banks Men's and Women's QS 1,000 will run LIVE August 29 - September 2 at Jennette's Pier in Nags Head, North Carolina.
