QS men blow up in small but clean waves on Day 2 of the Volkswagen SA Open of Surfing pres. by Hurley
Pollock Beach, Port Elizabeth - Small surf and clean conditions for the second day of the Volkswagen SA Open of Surfing pres by Hurley saw the local and international competitors turn up their small wave surfing skills for some radical aerial moves and strong finishes in the clean two-foot surf.
The early morning heats set the tone for the day, with powerful performances and high risk moves getting the nod from the assembled judges.
Adin Masencamp continued to show the form that has seen him climb to the top of the WSL Africa QS Leaderboard and win a`wildcard into the upcoming Ballito Pro pres by Billabong. Masencamp pulled off some big aerial moves with great style to win his round of 32 heat with relative ease. Liam O'Brien from Australia went through with him, while Jarred Veldhuis from Kommetjie and Australian Connor Lyons were eliminated.

Former Championship Tour surfer Australian Mitch Crews continued his campaign to requalify for the CT, surfing a stellar heat to advance along with South African Slade Prestwich. Henrique Pyrrait from Portugal and Facundo Arreyes from Argentina were unfortunately sidelined in this heat. Crews, the powerful natural-footer from Snapper Rocks, surfed explosively and decisively, showing his CT experience, but Prestwich was no slouch, and put on a polished display in the small right-handers.

The dynamic South African goofy-footer Jordy Maree from Kalk Bay also surfed a blinder heat, outpointing Pedro Coelho from Portugal in second. The two south Africans Ethan Fletcher and Chad Du Toit placed in the minor positions and bowed out of the event.

Jackson Baker from Australia, ranked 55th on the latest QS leaderboard,, put on a virtuoso display of high risk surfing to win his heat comfortably, leaving Theo Fresia and Luan Carvalho from Brazil in his wake, along with Lliam Mortensen from Australia. Fresia advanced along with Baker.

The Volkswagen SA Open of Surfing pres. by Hurley is the fifth and final stop in the City Surf Series with the women's QS3000 taking center stage. The event also features a men's QS1500, along with Longboarding LQS men's and women's events, Volkswagen activations and CSI programmes. It has already crowned a men's and women's JQS 1000 champion in Zoe McDougall (Hawaii) and Luke Slijpen from South Africa.
The event finishes on 24 June, and leads into the Ballito Pro pres by Billabong QS 10,000 event happening at Ballito on the North Coast of Durban.
