The first day of the nudie Australian Boardriders Battle Final pitted the country's best surf clubs against each other for primacy and pride at Newcastle beach on the Central Coast. Among the WSL pros in attendance to battle for their home turf were Ryan Callinan, a local hero and former CT surfer, and Tyler Wright, the reigning WSL women's World Champ. The nudie ABB Final is an annual, team-based specialty event sanctioned by the WSL, which rolls right into massive Qualifying Series events -- followed the elite-level Gold Coast contests in March. Happily, no points are on the line here, but local pride and yearlong bragging rights might be worth just as much.
