The HIC Pro is known as the kick-off to the North Shore's winter surf season, since it is the official local qualifier into the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing and sees 9 Hawaii athletes score a spot into Hawaii's two year-ending QS10,000 events.
Sunset Beach supplied some of the best conditions of 2017 for the HIC Pro and the international field of competitiors enjoyed three days of epic surf with only three others in the lineup. Hawaiian Ezekiel Lau was the clear standout as he threaded barrels, hammered out powerful hacks and eyed air sections, while Australian Wade Carmichael had an impressively strong performance and ended in second place.
All eyes now shift to Haleiwa Ali'i Beach Park for event no. 1 of the Vans Triple Crown, the Hawaiian Pro, which has a holding period of November 12 - 24.
