A large, somewhat unruly, swell generated in the South Pacific and showed up right on time this morning at Playa Zicatela for the Puerto Escondidio Challenge. The early rounds were dominated by a pair of world renowned Maui-raised surfers -- Billy Kemper and Kai Lenny -- and a man from Cornwall, England -- Tom Lowe. Kemper posted the two highest scoring rides of the early rounds, a 9.00 in Round One and a 7.33 in Round Two. Lenny and Lowe both impressed with courageous performances, overcoming brutal wipeouts to pick off some of the deepest, most technical tubes of the opening two rounds.
