Of all the goofyfooted surfers in the draw at the Corona Open J-Bay, Italo Ferreira has the style -- and body type -- to best duplicate the efforts of the great Mark Occhilupo. Like Occy, Italo uses a deep, lingering bottom turn to fade into the wave which in turn creates an almost slow motion-like illusion. It's a tease to the eyes, creating the effect of slowing down while still chasing the spinning vortex that is the J-Bay lip line. While his opponents, Kolohe Andino Leo Fioravanti, struggled to find waves outside the average range, Italo showed a keen eye and picked off the three highest-scoring waves of the entire heat. It was a cake walk for the Brazilian, really, in the end.
