Another massive crowd gathered at Itauna Beach on Finals day for the Oi Rio Women's Pro and the ladies didn't disappoint. World Champ Tyler Wright returned to the Winner's podium for the second straight year in Rio (and her third event victory overall in Brazil). And she did so in dominant fashion, leading over Runner-Up Johanne Defay from the get-go and never looking back. Wright's big win takes her into a tie with Stephanie Gilmore atop the Jeep Leaderboard heading into the Tour's next event -- the Outerknown Fiji Women's Pro.
Next up were the men, who completed the non-elimination Round Four heats. And if their performances were any indication of what's to come in Saquarema, surf fans are in for a helluva ride. A hectic, all-Brazilian Heat 1 provided relentless action, with Adriano de Souza taking down a fired-up Wiggolly Dantas and a sublime Gabriel Medina. Not to be outdone, the final heat of the day -- Heat 4 -- provided its own share of fireworks when Owen Wright narrowly overcame Kanoa Igarashi's last-ditch effort in the dying seconds of the clash.
The forecast is for large surf to arrive in the next few days, be sure to check in tomorrow at 7 a.m. BRT for more action from the Oi Rio Pro.
