WSL Europe Qualifying Series Official forecaster magicseaweed.com has just released a first overview of the conditions for the upcoming Pro Santa Cruz pres. by Oakley this week.
Pro Santa Cruz pres. by Oakley returns to the beautiful shores of central Portugal.
Below is a summary of the swell and wind activity over the next few days, for the full detailed forecast, please visit the Forecast tab on the event website.
Overview
Initial conditions for the Pro Santa Cruz are driven by a broad high pressure system to the west of Ireland. This sets up a long, weak flow of north wind that drives consistent low to mid period swell south.
The opening day sees a small, lingering west swell and onshore winds with a northerly wind sea developing. As we move into Wednesday this wind swell develops pushing into the head high range, but with fresh onshore winds.
The best bet in this early run looks to be on Thursday with this lower period swell peaking in the head high range with potential for larger sets and the wind swinging offshore as the high pressure moves south. Friday could continue this theme with smaller, lingering north swell and good winds.
Beyond this there is likely some north westerly ground swell for the final day of the window - although wind conditions at this range look positive they're very likely subject to change.
