When massive peaks starting pulsing through the Nazaré canyon, Australian Jamie Mitchell and Portuguese local Huge Vau put didn't hesitate to push themselves over the ledges. The pair posted back-to-back excellent scores to jump ahead in Round One of the Nazaré Challenge. However, it was Mitchell's critical 8.83 elevator drop that got the best of the exchange. Mitchell went on to win the heat and advanced to the Semis along with Vau and Brazilian surfer Carlos Burlé.
