Kanoa needed a Semifinal berth in order to double-qualify and open up a CT spot for fellow Quiksilver teammate and No. 11-ranked Qualifying Series surfer, Lau. So with his buddy's neck on the line, Igarashi took his surfing to another level against the South African heavyweight. Kanoa calmed Zeke's nerves when he threaded a near-perfect 9.93 barrel at Backdoor, which proved critical in his heroic win.
