Haleiwa will always be a special place for John John Florence. Before he began charging up the road at Pupukea and Pipeline as a tiny towheaded grommet, Haleiwa's slow-rolling inside reform is where he (and most of his North Shore peers) mastered the basics of balance and rhythm. It's also the same place where Florence surfed his first contest. So now that he's Hawaii's newest World Champion, a triumphant return at where it all started seems fitting, and there was a whole new generation being inspired by him at the Hawaiian Pro.
