Growing up at Pipeline on Oahu's North Shore, John John Florence got comfortable in heaving, scary tubes at an early age. That's exactly what he found in his Quarterfinal heat against Julian Wilson. The Jeep leader almost forgot he was fighting for a World Title as he flowed through a series of solid barrels on his way to the Semifinals.
With so much riding on these final heats, Pete Mel asked Florence about the pressure. "I feel super good right now," said Florence. "I'm relaxed, I'm happy, I'm getting barreled, I'm stoked."
Now only one (or possibly two) heats stand between Florence and his first World Title. He will take on Californian Kolohe Andino in the Semis.
