Large, unruly surf at Supertubos posed a huge challenge for competitors during Round Five of the MEO Rip Curl Pro. Hawaiian Sebastian Zietz engaged in a full cardio workout during his heat with Australian rookie Stu Kennedy. He caught nine waves in 35 minutes, and only managed to post a pair of 4-point rides. Stu was more selective, but ended up losing out to Zietz by a fraction of a point. The Hawaiian will take on Jordy Smith in the Quarters.
Kennedy can hold his head high knowing a 9th place result will help his case for potentially being named Rookie of the Year. Plus, the points boost his reach for requalification for the 2017 Championship Tour.
