Maxime Huscenot claims the iconic Soöruz Lacanau Pro Title in an all-French final.

The Médoc Océan Lacanau Pro returns to the iconic seaside town of Lacanau this week with a QS1,000 combined men and women's event. Surfers traveling down from England where the Boardmasters, Cornwall were held last week, will continue their summer campaign across the Old Continent in search for the precious ranking points and a piece of the prize money on offer.

One of the longest running surf competitions in Europe, the Médoc Océan Lacanau Pro has seen most of the sport's legends do battle in the punchy beach breaks the town is known worldwide for. This year again some of the strongest European and international surfers will flock to Lacanau to hone their skills and build momentum towards the bigger events of the back half of the leg.

The venue: the main central beach in Lacanau is invaded by thousands of beachgoers each summer, mainly surf-enthusiasts looking to score the fast, hollow waves the breaks are known to produce. Picking up most swells, Lacanau extremely rarely goes flat and often delivers pumping surf to the satisfaction of local surfers and visitors.

Defending event champion Maxime Huscenot is currently sitting in 26th position on the international Qualifying Series rankings and will look to continue on his great run to defend his title in Lacanau. The former World Junior Champion will lead a field of European and international surf stars into this week's event.

"I'm super happy to head back to Lacanau, it's one of the biggest events in France and the support from the crowds there is awesome," he stated. "I have excellent memories from there last year and I hope to come back even stronger this time. I feel great at the moment and ready to launch my European leg."

The second of seven back-to-back events across the U.K, France, Spain, the Azores, Morocco and Portugal, the Médoc Océan Lacanau Pro will be an important event in the regional title race for the European athletes.

"It is positive to be including again the Médoc Océan Lacanau Pro to the leg of QS events being held through Europe this season," Rob Gunning, WSL Europe tour manager stated. "The addition of a women's QS event is also great as it strengthens the series of 6 women's QS events coming up. The atmosphere with large crowds on the beach and evening activities combined with the quality waves we know Lacanau can deliver all leads up to another promising edition next week."
