Anglet will host its annual Night Surfing event for the 22nd edition in 2016.
World Surf League is thrilled to sanction the 22nd edition of the Anglet Surf de Nuit as a specialty event, coming up on August 19, 2016.
This week's forecast showing virtually no sign of swell for Friday or Saturday, event organizers have decided to push the event a week back to Friday the 19th, to maximize their chances of running the event in the best possible conditions.
The concept: Huge balloons filled with helium gas will light up the Chambre d'Amour beach where 12 surfers will compete in a best-aerial format battling for a total 1,000€ cash purse and a wildcard slot into the QS1,500 Pro Anglet for the winner. Their boards will also be lighting the scene with LED colored stripes on the decks.

An afternoon of LIVE music and exhibitions will precede the main night-surf event with the performance of Kazy Lambist representing the new French generation of DJ performing at Sables d'Or beach.
At 9pm local time, all-eyes will turn to a lineup of twelve surfers competing in this year's Surf de Nuit. For the first time in the event's history, the competition will be webcast LIVE through the WSL website globally to audiences across the world. A DJ set by Gaëtan Laurent will complement the amazing surfing action in the water.
The A-List of competitors is now confirmed and includes big names of current WSL competitors including:
Current European N°4 Jorgann Couzinet
Moroccans Ramzi Boukhiam & Selim Barkat
perennial QS threats Vincent Duvignac & Adrien Toyon
junior up-and-comers Leo Paul Etienne & Justin Becret
*and local surfers Romain Laulhe, Julien Thouron, Thomas La Fonta, David LeBoulch & Roland Lefeuvre
The Venue: with its 4.5km stretch of beaches, Anglet marks the end of the "Landes" sandy beaches and the beginning of the Atlantic Pyrenees rocky coast. Surfing first appeared in Anglet and on the Basque Coast at the end of the 50's. In 68, the first World Championships in Europe were held at the infamous "La Barre".
