Foram realizadas dez baterias para definir as classificadas para as semifinais e a peruana Melanie Giunta acabou eliminada em quinto lugar no último duelo do dia. Ela chegou a despachar uma top do CT, Chelsea Tuach, de Barbados, mas depois perdeu nas quartas de final para a australiana Isabella Nichols. As quatro que vão decidir o título mundial Pro Junior de 2015 da World Surf League são a atual campeã, Mahina Maeda, do Havaí, a portuguesa Teresa Bonvalot e as australianas Holly Wawn e Isabella Nichols.
A peruana Melanie Giunta era a última esperança para a conquista de um inédito título mundial da América do Sul na categoria feminina para surfistas com até 20 anos de idade. Ela disputou três baterias nas ondas pequenas da quinta-feira na Praia dos Pescadores. Na primeira rodada classificatória para as quartas de final, ficou em segundo na disputa vencida pela mesma Isabella Nichols. A peruana aproveitou a segunda chance surpreendendo uma das novidades na elite feminina do CT 2016, Chelsea Tuach, derrotando a surfista de Barbados por 13,50 a 8,67 pontos.
Depois voltou a encarar Isabella Nichols nas quartas de final e perdeu de novo, terminando em quinto lugar no Ericeira WSL World Junior Championships. Melanie só conseguiu surfar uma onda boa que valeu nota 7,0 e a australiana teve mais sorte na escolha para computar duas notas 7,33 e ainda descartar 6,33, 6,70 e 6,83. O placar foi encerrado em 14,66 a 12,43 pontos. Com a vitória, Nichols vai fazer um duelo australiano com Holly Wawn para definir a segunda finalista do Mundial Pro Junior da World Surf League em Portugal.
Holly Wawn foi o destaque da quinta-feira na Praia dos Pescadores. Ela estabeleceu novos recordes para o campeonato com os 17,53 pontos das notas 9,50 e 8,03 recebidas numa bateria eletrizante com a havaiana Dax McGill, que atingiu 16,10 pontos com notas 8,43 e 7,67. Já a disputa pela primeira vaga na grande final terá a defensora do título, Mahina Maeda, contra a portuguesa Teresa Bonvalot. Maeda já tirou uma surfista de Portugal nas quartas de final, Camilla Kemp, logo depois de Bonvalot despachar a norte-americana Tia Blanco.
MASCULINO ADIADO - Enquanto a categoria feminina já definiu as quatro semifinalistas, a masculina continua parada na repescagem com todos os 48 participantes do Ericeira WSL World Junior Championships ainda vivos na briga do título mundial. Dos oito integrantes da equipe sul-americana da WSL South America, apenas os catarinenses Yago Dora e Alcides Lopes estrearam com vitórias e passaram direto para a terceira fase.
Os outros quatro brasileiros e os dois peruanos perderam e terão que disputar a segunda chance de classificação na primeira rodada eliminatória do Mundial Pro Junior da World Surf League em Portugal. O bicampeão sul-americano Sub-20 da WSL South America, Deivid Silva, vai abrir a repescagem com o japonês Yuji Mori e o peruano Juninho Urcia entra na segunda bateria com o costa-ricense Noe Mar McGonagle.
