Reynolds on Wildcards He's Been 'Blessed With'
3:01
During the Fiji Pro, Dane Reynolds opened up about the weight that comes with a wildcard entry.

Dane Reynolds has been awarded his third wildcard spot of the season for the 2015 J-Bay Open, joining JBU Supertrial Winner Slade Prestwich to challenge the world's best in South Africa.

Reynolds is coming off a Round 5 finish at the Fiji Pro, where he defeated current World No. 1 Adriano de Souza (BRA) on the way. Due to a World Surf League rule change which allows wildcards to keep Championship Tour points, the California native is currently ranked No. 34 on the Jeep Leaderboard.

Reynolds' Fine Form in Fiji

The patient wildcard finds a hollow section at Cloudbreak for a 9.57.

Reynolds' ninth-place finish in Fiji places him above full-time CT competitors C.J. Hobgood (USA) and Brett Simpson (USA). Meanwhile, fellow two-time wildcard Jay Davies (AUS) is currently ranked No. 32, ahead of Reynolds and Dusty Payne (HAW).

Davies Delivered at Margaret River
Jay Davies lost in Round 2 at the Fiji Pro. But with a Quarterfinal finish at Margaret River, he's still holding strong at No. 32.

It is yet to be determined if or when Davies will again surf as a WSL wildcard, but should Reynolds perform well at Jeffreys Bay -- and receive additional wildcard spots this season -- he could have a shot at CT requalification. To qualify each year for the Tour, a surfer must be ranked No. 22 or better on CT rankings. The top 10 surfers on the Qualifying Series (QS) fill out the Tour (not including those who qualify on both the CT and QS).
