The annual Peña Txuri Junior Pro Sopela is confirmed to return to the Basque Country coastal town from July 23-26, 2015. The long tradition of events in Sopela continues to attract the very best European under-20 surfers and the 2015 edition promises another action-packed weekend for the massive July crowds.
Event No. 3 of 5 on this year's WSL European Junior Series, the Peña Txuri Junior Pro Sopela will be a pivotal point halfway through the season, deciding front runners in the regional title race.
Following the inaugural event of 2015 in Portugal last week, it's safe to say that the performance level of the new generation of surfers keeps getting stronger. Over 120 competitors have already entered the series this season, led by Portuguese up-and-comers Teresa Bonvalot (PRT) and Miguel Blanco (PRT).
"The Peña Txuri Junior Pro Sopela is one of our longest-running junior events and it has consolidated its position on the WSL schedule," Rob Gunning, WSL Europe Tour Manager stated. "It has great participation each year with over 20 different regions of surfers represented. 2015 is shaping to be a spectacular season of junior surfing and Sopela will showcase highly this talent pool of young surfers."
In previous years, Sopela has repeatedly delivered great conditions and the punchy A-frame beachbreaks are the perfect canvas for both progressive maneuvers and traditional rail surfing, a true complete package for the young competitors.
