LOCATION: Playa de San Juan, Teguise / Lanzarote - Canary Islands
TIME DIFFERENCE: GMT
COORDINATES: 29.0350° N, 13.6330° W
BAGGAGE CLAIM: Arrecife International Airport, Arrecife (ACE)
THE LOCATION: The Canary Islands are a Spanish archipelago located west of the southern border or Morocco, about 100km offshore. Six main islands and a number of islets compose the archipelago. Lanzarote, the fourth largest and most northern island is home to the Teguise 2015 Franito Pro Junior.
The playa de San Juan sits on the north-shore of the island, exposed to most directions of swells, and just outside the little village of Caleta de Famara.
THE HISTORY: Lanzarote has a long tradition of professional events, and especially in San Juan. Since 2014, Europe's best Junior surfers see the regional tour culminate in a grand finale at the iconic lefthander in September.
THE WAVE: Long, powerful lefthand pointbreak over a shallow rocky bottom, and a short righthander into the channel. San Juan can handle size and will deliver throaty barrels at low tide when the conditions are right.
